Overview of a CNA Program

There is going to be an orientation program that you will have to attend before enrolling and beginning a CNA program. This is required before becoming eligible for attending the school. The program is usually offered at Seattle Community College 4 times a year; the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Classes are typically Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9-3:30. You are going to be learning things such as basic care, certain care procedures, restorative care, dealing with elderly as well as pediatric patients, and also emergency situations among several other skills. Because you are going to be working with patients, and some situations involve stroke patients, there are some fitness requirements that are going to be needed when attending Seattle Community College for a CNA program. These can include:

• Squatting for long periods of time

• Lifting, pushing, and pulling

• Walking and being on your feet all day

• Using your hands and fingers

• Reaching and climbing

• Have rapid muscle and mental coordination

• Operating medical equipment

• Ability to communicate with patients effectively

• Ability to accept feedback
