Choosing a suitable air conditioning unit for your home is not a topic that can or indeed should be underestimated and those of us who are labouring under the woefully misinformed perspective that all air conditioning units are equal are in for a rude awakening indeed.
For example, many people will base their final purchasing decision purely on the cost of the items in front of them and so the cheaper the unit, the more likely it is to be chosen by the customer. Although such a perspective maybe understandable given the current economic climate, the truth of the matter is that the cheaper units lack many of the inherent features associated with the top range models.
Therefore, it is crucial that the consumer takes the time to carefully weigh up the different features offered by each of the different models and only then make a final decision with all the facts in mind.
Specifically, the consumer should give some serious consideration to the Energy Efficient Rating (EER). At the risk of grossly oversimplifying a fairly complex issue, the higher the EER is for a particular air conditioning unit then the better the quality of the product. But why on earth is the EER of such significance to the consumer?
Air conditioning units which are more efficient with their usage of energy will not waste as much electrical energy and so this means that over the course of time, the owner of the unit will be liable for either more or less money as the case maybe. Therefore, although you may save some money in the short term by choosing a cheaper air conditioning system, you will find that over the course of a year you will end up losing out more money in the overheads associated with the unit.
Furthermore, there has been a sizeable amount of evidence to suggest that the cheaper models are created using inferior quality components which are more liable to break and therefore require costly repair.
Another issue that the consumer should be aware of is that there is a strong need for caution when it comes to the actual installation of the unit. Many consumers try to further cut costs (not to mention corners) by waiving the need for a warranty, and then attempt to install the unit themselves.
Unfortunately, the installation of an air conditioning unit can be a fairly technical demanding process at the best of times and so the novice consumer runs the risk of injury to themselves as well as damage to the unit with an incorrect installation technique. Therefore, unless you are confident that you are able to genuinely install the air conditioning unit without any risk to yourself or others, it is strongly recommended that you hire a professional to install the unit.
Some stores will an installation service for a nominal fee or even for nothing if you purchase an air conditioning unit over a certain value which may provide you with the incentive you need to go for a top range model!
