What Are Some Things to Know About CNA Training

The medical field is one field that no matter how bad the economy is, will always have a demand for workers. There are a million paths to take, and as with anything, many people choose to start at the bottom and work their way up. Becoming a CNA is a great place to start for a few different reasons, and the biggest one is to kind of get a feel for what you can come to expect in the medical and health field. There are some things that people are not sure about so they "test the waters" so to speak, and in this case, CNA training is the beginning step to a career as a CNA.

What Does a CNA Do?

It has often times been said that being a CNA is rather demanding, and this is true based on where you work. As a CNA, your job is one of the most important ones as you are going to have the most contact with patients, and you are an important role at monitoring their health in a way. You are going to be helping patients with ADL's (Activities of Daily Living) that can include any and all things such as:

• Bathing

• Oral hygiene

• Range of motion

• Colostomy bag care

• Catheter care

• Walking

• Feeding

• I&O (intake and output)

• Emotional support

• Taking medications

• And much more

As a CNA you will be working in various facilities including hospitals and medical offices. There are even home health agencies that are going to need services for those who are remaining in the comfort of their own homes. In CNA training, you are going to learn the basics of patient care, and certain areas will be complex such as how to deal with patients who have certain illnesses and disabilities.

How Long Are Classes?

There are now more and more ways to earn your CNA certification. Some places are offering it online while there are still more traditional campuses or other campuses or vocational schools. There are some places that provide training in as little as 3 weeks, but the typical average length of CNA classes is about 6 weeks long. Classes can vary based on your state where you will be working as a CNA. Some classes will only as that you complete a 75-hour training course, but there are other states that require more.

CNA training can be affordable for many people, and you will find some colleges charge $300, but there are some courses that are more advanced so the price is going to be closer to $1000 if not more. Once you have completed your training, there is a 2 part test and clinical hands on test that you are going to have to take, The written part of the test as well as the clinical part are strenuous for some, and you should ensure you have adequate study time. Passing this exam is going to get you one step closer to being a part of the medical field.
